Complementary Medicine

There is increasing evidence that natural healthcare can improve health, prevent disease and reduce the cost of healthcare. Vitamins, minerals, herbs and other modalities are safer and can be just as effective as conventional treatments if correctly used.

There is a huge body of research evidence on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) – the Cochrane electronic library contains more than 80 CAM-related reviews and about 5000 CAM-related clinical trials.

The Australian Medical Council’s position statement on CAM in July 2000 provides a list of objectives relating to knowledge and understanding of complementary therapies and encourages medical schools to address these.
The challenge for doctors, with little time for lengthy courses, is to find ways of accessing the evidence base about CAM relevant to their specific area, quickly, easily and cost effectively. My workshops do that, combined with 25 years experience of common patterns of illness.
